What is “Somatic” work, Anyhow?

Breath has an enormous impact on our mental and emotional wellbeing. It’s a key bridge between your body and your brain.

When you’re under chronic stress and even feeling burnt out, your breath is affected. It’s likely to be:

Shallow: only in your chest, not your belly

  • Fast: even when you’re not moving

  • Held: forgetting to breathe when concentrating

  • Tense: breathing feels forced or tight

Breathing in this way is a result of ongoing stress and anxiety, but it also can increase anxiety, tension, and even make burnout worse.
